Weight Loss Review - The Biggest Loser Diet - Comparison

by Diets Reviewed

Based on the NBC reality television program, The Biggest Loser Diet is a diet plan modeled from the book of the same name, and its no surprised that an online diet plan has been developed based on the same concepts.  But does the hype from the show make it the best online plan?

The premise of The Biggest Loser Diet is reasonable enough.  Subscribers get a plan modeled after the diet plan used on the hit show, message boards, a fitness plan, and newsletters.  But how does The Biggest Loser Diet compare to the leading online diet plan - eDiets?

Biggest Loser Club Diet - Details and Plan Benefits

The Biggest Loser Club Diet actually does a good job of incorporating a robust tracking & progress tool with a structured diet and exercise plan.  We feel the hyped approach in the use of the NBC show and Bob Harper message board is overdone however.

We're glad to see exercise and fitness incorporated into the plan - but have concerns that the hype and strenuous nature of the fitness plan aren't sustainable.  Overly aggressive fitness programs may be right for some, but a more sensible long term approach to reasonable exercise as a compliment to lifestyle changes and diet is more likely to lead to long term weight loss.

How the Biggest Loser Diet works

The Biggest Loser diet begins with you entering your desired weight and goals into their calculator.  From there, they provide a list of grocery items, food lists (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks) to help you prepare specific food lists.  The Biggest Loser Diet focuses primarily on calorie counting and balancing caloric intake with pre-designed food lists.

While customization (cholesterol, vegetarian preferences, etc.) are claimed we saw little evidence of a fully customizable plan.  Instead the focus appears to be on calorie reduction, food menu's, and a strong emphasis on exercise.  In many ways, this plan feels more like a Weight Watchers plan than some of the other more popular plans currently on the market and getting the highest reviews.

Recommendation and Comparison - Biggest Loser to eDiets

While we had reservations that an overhyped TV show diet plan would be sensible or worthwhile, The Biggest Loser Club Diet is a reasonably packaged online weight loss plan.  We simply rate the features, flexibility, personalization, and price to market leading eDiets higher for most users.

Adopting a 1-diet for all plan is not the best approach.  Changes in lifestyle, time, ability to prepare meals, receptiveness to a variety of plans all of which can lead to reasonable weight loss make an open ended managed plan like eDiets the preferred route to those like the Biggest Loser Club Diet.

eDiets remains our choice over the Biggest Loser Club.
