The Cabbage Soup Diet
by
Diets Reviewed
The Cabbage soup diet is a high-fiber, low-fat diet that
promises up to a stone (10 pounds) loss in just a week. The
cabbage soup diet has purity to it but is somewhat rigid. It is
especially nice in summers when the soup can be served iced.
Making the soup is easy and if you do not like very spicy food
this diet is ideal for you.
To prepare the
soup, take one cabbage, 2 onions, 2 green peppers, 6 carrots, half pound of
green beans, and about 16-28 ounces of tomatoes. Put these chopped vegetables in
a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and stir in the soup mix,
black pepper, and herbs and cook this for about 10 minutes. Garnish the soup
with fresh herbs. You must consume as much of the cabbage soup diet as
you can throughout the diet.
Apart from the
soup you must follow a strict dietary regulation for it to be effective. On the
first day of the diet you can consume all fruits except bananas. On the second
day you can accompany the soup with all kinds of vegetable. These vegetables can
be raw or cooked, even some baked potato is allowed. On the third day of the
diet you must have fruits and vegetable, but avoid eating any banana or potato.
On the fourth day you are advised to eat a banana and skim milk diet along with
your soup. Day five is meat day. You can eat fish, meat, or chicken but you must
also drink at least 8 glasses of water. On day six you can add vegetables apart
from meat. On the final day of the diet you should eat brown rice, vegetables,
and unsweetened juice.
If you follow
this diet rigorously, you are bound to lose up to 10 pounds. Though this diet is
effective in the short-term, it is known to induce light-headed among some
people. Also, while on the diet, you can drink as much coffee or tea but you
must avoid any alcohol intake.
